Maria Schmolln

There is a small but exceedingly well known town in Upper Austria, called "Maria Schmolln." It is a Pilgrimage town and thousands of people visit the church it every year. The very old church was renovated to an extent that one can almost say it was rebuilt. Some of the old works of art were placed in a Museum and today's artists were asked to create new works, worthy of this churches reputation.

The above is the Main Altar and one emmidiately recognizes the modern style of creating the human figure.

This close up truly tells the tale, with its magnificent depiction of scenes of the Crucifiction. You should realy click on this image and make it large. It's worth the effort.
