Beautiful Maasai Women

Many years ago, when I was in Kenya for the first time, I was fascinated by the Maasai.
In particular it was the women, their beautiful faces and their elaborate jewellery which grabbed my attention.

Just outside their "Boma" a mother and her two children
is a bit reluctant at first, but a little later she agrees to pose alone.
From somewhat of a frown, her face changes into a bright smile.

Artfully strung together coloured beads make a
wonderful neckless.

Posing as she did, Gladys called her the Sarah Bernhard of Africa.

Curious about the bottle under her left arm
I examined this picture with a magnifying glass!
It says: "Milk of Magnesia"

This woman relied less on coloured beeds, and more on
natural decorations: Much of her Jewellery is made from
Porcupine quills.
