Santa Claus vs.Sankt Nickolaus

There seems to be some misunderstandings in certain quarters about the two above named gentlemen. Let me explain to you the facts of this matter:
Sankt Nickolaus is believed to have been a real life bishop somewhere in Turkey. The fact is, that he never existed and is only an invention so that children in Austria and other places, have another fun day.
At least, I can tell you that the one who visited me was my brother, all dressed up. I recognized him on his voice. The tried to cheat me with this phony character from Turkey. But I was too smart. I knew my brother when I heard him.

Now for the fact: Santa Claus is a real little fat guy who lives on the North Pole in a wonderful igloo. He lives there with Mrs. Claus and a whole bunch of elves. Together they work all year long to make toys for all the good children. Then on Christmas Eve 12 reindeer come and pull Santa atop a big sled all over the world to distribute the presents. Now that's the truth

Hi Babs...I am glad that you share my opinion. Nobody, but children believe this fairy tale about this guy in Turkey. My story about Santa Claus on the North Pole is based on nothing but fact, facts, facts...the reindeer need Rudolf with his shining red nose, so that they can find Austria on a dark night.
P.S. I had to delete the last entry because I made 2 typos...

super!This is what we are trying to tell all the people all around the world.
Each country has his own legends,and sould be proud abiout them.
The real problem is when they are mixed up-,and at last nobody knows anything.
Nikolaus comes in Austria on the 24 th of December We celebrate jesus birtsday and no angels fly around with Christmas presents .
Santa Clause with his elves and his sledge(rudolf with his red nose on top of the reindeers)flys down from Nordpol......
I often found out that nothing remains when people grow up,because the never learned to celebrete Christmas.No matter which story they ever heard .
My daugther got a presents from her aunt when she was a little girl.
she was very happy and danced and sang:Tante mir geschenkt,hurra hurra.
And her aunt sais no:This was the Christkind
Anna:Nein Tante mir geschenkt....
Aunt;No wrong christkind....
Why could´t she just be happa that her nice was happy about something she got from her loved aunt.
If you are a good child you weill get many presents.
What about the children who are good and handsomeall the year through and don`t get many presents from the Christkind.......
I can see such things every year again.
And who wonderswhy older children say:Bleede kindische Weihnachtsfeier...
Because nobody told them the real cause of Christmas and how to celebrete it.
Thats what we all fight for.

Well, considering the fact that all of this was created to get a bunch of tree hugging pagans to follow a new myth it really doesn't matter how the story got twisted and turned - it is all fiction. Except for the fact that while you might have THOUGHT that your brother brought you presents, I happen to know that it was a nice white haired lady in the kitchen of my childhood home.

Nikolaus was born in Patara and bishop in Myra, Little Asia (Tyrkey).
He really lived!!! Christa and Theo visited the location of his church.Even the Muslims worship him as a saint.Berts second part is realy for little children. You don't really believe it, do you? In the memory to Nikolaus not only in Austria a person is dressed up as the historical person. He brought the "christmas gifts on 6th Dec. to the children before this was transfered to Christkind (by Martin Luther!)on the Eve of 24th Dec. Christkind is the sinonym for Jesus. Christiane is right, that it is a problem, because not all children get as many gifts as other children. Therefore it is better to say, the gifts bring the people (parents) in memory of Jesus.
Christiane is right, saying the problem exists by the global spreading of different tales.

12 reindeer? Nuh-uh!

The most well-known names for the reindeer pulling Santa Claus' sleigh come from two sources. The names are:

* Dasher
* Dancer
* Prancer
* Vixen
* Comet
* Cupid
* Donner
* Blitzen
* Rudolf

All but the last name come from the poem: 'Twas the Night before Christmas, commonly credited to Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863). It was actually written in 1807 by Major Henry Livingston, Jr. (1748-1828) with the title Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas. The names "Donner" and "Blitzen" were changed by Moore from "Dunder" and "Blixem". See the related link for information on this poem's origin.

The last name, Rudolph, comes from a story and colouring book Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer that Robert L. May created in 1939 for his employer, the Montgomery Ward department store. The copyright for the story was later turned over to May, and his brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, wrote the well-known song that further popularized the character.

Theo asked me if I really believed the story about Santa Claus living on the North Pole? Of course I believe it !!! Why would I not believe the truth? As I said before: He lives up there on the NP in a great bir Igloo with his wife, Mrs. Claus, and a whole bunch of elves. How else could he produce all the toys for all the children in the world? Actually he brings the toys only to Christian Children. All other children, like Hindu, Zoroasterian, Mohamedan, Jewish and many other children, get nothing...

Now, Howards further detailed explanation about the names of the Reindeer is most enlightening, as all Howards explanations are. The name change from Dunder to Donner and from Blixem to Blitzen was done so that German speaking children could understand them.
When "Dasher and Dancer" also wanted to change their names to "Marilyn Munroe and Arthur Murray" there was much consternation in Santa's Igloo. The request was finally turned down.
So tghose are the historical facts, which you may read in any decent children's book.

My grandmother, Egberts mother, told me often, that the US GIs were afraid about the horrible figures at 6th of Dez in Austria in the year of 1945, after coming here. Therefore they did'nt allow any more this running of these persons. After our people had told them, that behind there are human persons and what it means, the "Krampusse" were allowed again.

I know a book called: Kemal und der Nikolaus.
In this book a boy is afraid that is friend Kemal from turkey will not get anything from St. Nikolaus.
So he shares half of his presents with his friends and puts them in front of his friends door at night.
Shouldn`t it be this the wright way to celebrate...........

oh my god, there is no right way. YOUR and HER and HIS and THEIR Way is the right one. We are happy and healthy in the year 2009 and many years in future. Is it so important to know what the "true" story is? Please let the children of the current world their dreams and wishes, regardless it's Santa Claus or Nikolaus or the Christkind... My Truth is Santa Claus on the Northpole with his reindeers and the elves who works hard for our childrens presents... basta ;-)
