Let's all pray for Peace... or should we???

Pope Franciscus calls for world wide prayer for a world without nuclear weapons.

On the 75th anniversary of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the use of Atomic Explosive Devices, Pope Franciscus flew to these Cities and asked for world wide prayer for a world completely free of Nuclear weapons.

In his address he said:

..“an incandescent burst of lightening and fire, so many men and women, so many dreams and hopes disappeared, leaving behind only shadows and silence in barely an instant, everything was devoured by a black hole of destruction and death!”

It is clearly a state to be desired. A world free of Nuclear Bombs!

But why stop there? Why did Francis not also asked to pray for a world free of all weapons of destruction?

Francis claimed that the possession of Nuclear Bombs is immoral.

What about the possession of untold tons of other explosive material inside of bombs? Is this not also immoral? Why one and not the other?

I do not recall that the Pope also flew to London to commemorate 70 attacks flown by the German Luftwaffe against this British Capital, or to Liverpool, or to Portsmouth, or to so many other English and other European Cities?

Rotterdam could use a little remembrance by the Pope..

On the 14th day of May German Luftwaffe flew against this Dutch City and rendered 85,000 Dutch homeless, while killing almost 1000 of its citizens.

Beginning on the 7th September 1941 and for 56 out of the following 57 days, German bombs rained on London, killing more than 43,000 and wounding 139,000 of Londoners.

Not a beep out of Francis.

I am sure that Pope Franciscus abhors all killing, whether it is done by atomic or conventional weapons. I think, however, that he should say so. and not single out one or two cities.

Anyway, when all is said and done, any plea for a weaponless (conventional or atomic) world of peace is welcome by every right thinking person.

There is now a second, less important issue at stake:

Pope Francis asked the World to pray for an atomic weapons free world.

Francis obviously has not read my Blog lately.

Therein I have, some postings ago, demonstrated conclusively that prayer is either needless, or useless.

God, so it is believed, causes everything to happen!

There was a man who did not want to be elected to become dog catcher of his town. He therefore announced that he would pray NOT to be elected to this position, unless God wanted him for this job.

If God decides that he should become dog catcher, then his praying NOT to become dog catcher is useless.

If, however, God had decided that he should NOT be elected, then his prayer is needless..

In the event of God having decided one way, but you pray for another, do you expect God to change his mind? Where would be His element of All Justice?

So, take your pick: Useless or needless. You cannot have either together with a determining God.

And please, do not give me this tired argument about “Free Will”.

His Free Will has nothing to do with any of it.
