Portugal's premier player, who all by himself can decide win or lose, is Christian Ronaldo.
He hangs around in mid field and all of a sudden he breaks free, makes a wild, but controlled dash down the left wing, plays the ball off, races to the middle, receives a return pass, or a high cross and the keeper of the opposing team can only reach behind himself.
How do the French enhance their chances of winning the final game of the EM 2016 ?
There are, I am sure, several ways.
Of course I have no proof. But one scenario could well be the order to Dimitri Payet to take out Ronaldo.
Take him out of the game.
I cannot read Payet's mind, but I can observe his action through many "slow motion" and "close-up" repeat showings of this collision in the 8th minute of the game. There seemed to be a deliberate follow through which caused Payet's boot to collide with Ronaldo's leg, close to his knee.
Executed in the earliest minutes of the game, unobserved by the referee, it accomplished its purpose cleanly: It removed Christiano Ronaldo from the competition.
Up to this point I was impartial, just looking forward to a good game, not much caring who won.
France or Portugal. It mattered not.
After this incident, however, which seemed to me a deliberate act of "football assassination",
I hoped for a Portuguese win. And low and behold, the End Result:
France 0 : Portugal 1
There is still Justice on the Soccer pitch.
