As a Prisoner of War, having been captured in Monte Casino, Italy,

kept in Camp Douglas, Wyoming 

and then in Camp Carson, Colorado, U.S.A.

This picture was taken during the early Summer of 1944 

in Camp Carson, when he was just over 19 years of age.
