This lovely City, located in the Province of Upper Austria, at the junction of two rivers, the Enns and the Steyr, received its City Charter in the year 980 A.D. In 1980, therefore, it celebrated its 1000th anniversary as a City. It features many architecturally interesting buildings in the Gothic, right up to the Rokoko styles.
This City of just under 40,000 inhabitants has a turbulent history, too multi-faceted to describe here. One can imagine that in 1000 years of history any number of things happened within the walls of this place.
