Valentin Omans Kreuzgang / The Stations of the Cross, by Valentin Oman

Valentin Oman, unser beruehmte Kaerntner Maler, war im slowenischen Piran, der kleinen, malerischen Stadt an der Kueste des Adriatischen Meeres.
Das Leiden der dortigen Bevoelkerung, hervorgerufen durch die schrecklichen Kriege, die brutale Gewalt, und das verlorene Blut, kam ihm zum Bewusstsein. Er schuf 14 Tafeln (220x150cm), den Leidensgang Christi darstellend, welche auch das Leiden der Menschen im Balkan symbolisieren.
Das Kreuz, als ein T dargestellt, ist auch der letzteBuchstabe im Hebraeischen Alphabet, und, aehnlich dem griechischen Omega, bedeutet das Letzte Ende, die Endgueltigkeit, aber auch vielleicht den hoffnungsvollen Segen.
Waehrend des Europafestes in Bleiburg, sind diese Bilder in der Kirche von Bleiburg ausgestellt und sie laden den Besucher zum Nachdenken ein.

Valentin Oman, our famous Carinthian painter, was in Piran, Slovenia, a small picturesque town on the coast of the Adriatic.
The suffering of the people of this region, caused by the terrible, seemingly never ending wars, the brutality, the spilled blood, made a deep impression on him. He created 14 pictures, (220x150cm) depicting the suffering of Christ, also symbolizing the suffering of the people of this region.
The Cross, depicted as a T, being the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, similar to the Greek Omega, indicated Finality but maybe also the hope producing blessing.
During the Festival of Europe, these 14 pictures are shown in the church of Bleiburg. they invite the visitor to thoughtful contemplation.
