I
am really getting fed up with this constant belly-aching:
“Amazon
makes Zillions of Dollars in Profits, but pays no Taxes.”
Let's
have a look at this constant complaint!
Amazon
pays no “Income Taxes” because it re-invests the bulk of
its profits.
Amazon
pays Sales Taxes, Payroll Taxes and other kinds of Taxes.
If
you had a “DoDads Store” or a “Veggy-Burger Stand” you'd be
in a similar position.
You'd
pay Sales Taxes, Payroll Taxes and other Taxes and, if you
re-invested all your “profits” by enlarging your Veggy-Burger
Stand, adding an A/C unit for the summer month and a heater for the
winter, thus enabling you to carry on your profitable business all
year long, you would also pay no “Income Taxes” to the
amount of your investments- write-offs- and for the year in which you
made these re-investments.
Additionally,
if your DoDads Store recorded Losses in its early stages, you could
write off part or all of these Losses in subsequent, profitable
years.
If
your “DoDads Store” were an international concern, you would
likely establish your head office in the neighboring Lotax-Country,
paying your taxes there instead of the Hightax-Country, like Austria.
As
long as Amazon, or any other enterprise does not “evade”
taxes, but simply “avoids” them, it acts no differently
from you and your “Veggy- Burger-Stand”.
Look
at your own last year's corporate tax return. Did you not deduct
from your company's income all allowable amounts, in order to reduce
your company's tax burden?
If
you did it on a small scale, why should somebody else not be allowed
to do it on the medium scale or, in some rare cases, on a large
scale?
Amazon,
which is the whipping-boy of large corporation's alleged misbehavior
is accused of conducting slave labor practices.
In
fact, Amazon's minimum wage for a warehouse worker amounts to $15.00
per hour, which is more than double the federally mandated minimum
wage of $7.25.
Employee's
wages range from an annual high of $150,000 to a low for a “warehouse
worker” of $29,000.00 per annum.
In
total, Amazon employs about 575,000 men and women.
All
of the above information can be obtained by a simple search of the
internet.
If
we do this, we need not repeat miss-information-based rumors as if
they were well researched facts.
It
is, however, much easier and demands less effort to parrot
miss-information, than to check around the internet for some basic
facts.
And
one more question: If you consider “Amazon” the devil of the
business world, why, in Hell, are you still buying from them?
