Normandy Landings - D Day

Today, 6th June , is the anniversary of the "Normandy Landings", called D Day.
Shortly after midnight 24,000 American, British and Canadian airborne troupes, parachuted behind German defensive lines.
At 6.30 AM, the largest ever amphibian invasion landed on the Normandy coast, and were met by heavy defensive fire. The Allied Forces lost in excess of ten thousand men, while the German defenders had to count only about 1000 of their dead soldiers.
A number of grievous mistakes on the part of the defenders made the inevitable success of the Allies less costly in human lives.

Late in August of 1944 all of Northern France had been liberated from Nazi occupation.
The "Normandy Landings" have been called "The Beginning of the end of World War II.

Back again.. jiggedy - jog

We had a wonderful time at our 65th Jubilee of our Senior Matriculation.
I will not show you pictures of 84 to 85 year old ladies and gentlemen, none of whom you would know. Suffice to say, that out of the original 24 there were only 8 left and, as one of the survivors said: "The rockets are hitting closer and closer."

On the way home we stopped for a moment so that I could take some pictures of corn flowers and an occasional poppy.

Three days "Blogless"

Illegally parked Cop Car ?

I must ask :

Is this cop car being towed because it is illegally parked ?

Maybe in front of the Medical Centre ?

Or a fire hydrant ?

Or did it suffer a break down ?

 nervous or mechanical ?
