The Maypole has arrived and was erected on the afternoon of 30th April 2016.
In days gone by, this tree was put up by "man-power"
in an intricate operation, taking the coordinated efforts of many men.
Today, a motorized "grappler" does the job.
Higher and higher goes the top!
More and more into the vertical position.
until, at last, it has reached the angle of the pendulum.
The tree comes to rest in a 75 cm deep hole in a concrete pedestal
and is fastened with wedges.
It used to take 20 to 30 men,
now these three lads and a motorized grappler
accomplished the job.
