"Marterlen"

They are called: Marterlen.
Sometimes they are put there by religious people
as a mini-shrine, reminding themselves, on their way to their fields
who to thank for a bauntiful harvest.

Other times they are placed there because a loved one
was killed in this curve at this spot, while riding his moped
too fast.

They can be found all over Austria.
Mostly, though, in Carinthia and Tirol.
I photographed many of them.
Those four will have to do.
