Please believe me, when I tell you that the whole "downtown" of Braunau was surrounded by this defensive wall, which prevented Napoleon's hordes from taking the city of Braunau. So the French Army commenced a beleagerment of this town and encircled it for 6 weeks. Many skirmishes were fought between the French and the Austrian defenders. After six weeks the defenders simply ran out of food. ( they obtained their water through deep wells. ) and had to surrender.
