Hallstatt am Hallstaetter See

This is Hallstatt, the small town, wedged between the lake and the mountain, so that it accommodates two streets running almost paralell to the lake. It gives the visual impression of a toy-town...(I guess that would make me Ken... ) It features a number of small, but very good hotels, many restaurants and Coffee houses. Today, its main source of income is, of course, tourism. In days gone by it was Salt....how important was "Salt" then? The Romans called it "Sal", a word from which we get "Salary"...that's how important it was.

...another slightly larger view of Hallstatt.
